| | | daedaleopsis confragosa with unusual growth i found this D,confragosa with a birch leaf stuck to its upper surface,
when i pulled the leaf of , it revealed this interesting growth feature where the leaf had been,
it is raised upto 3mm above the surrounding surface, and shows the veins of the leaf and even the stalk,
not something i had seen before, is it unusual or has anyone else seen anything similar?

Goosey on the sister site Wildabouttheworld has a few photos almost identical to yours.

Mal | I knew this post would come in handy Mal !
Hi Brian, very nice print you have there!
This is what Mal is on about - I found it all rather intersting too - (I think we belong to an exclusive little group of two - which is relief as I thought I was alone ) Leaf fossil fungi - Wild About The World
Thanks for inadvertantly coming up with an ID for me too!

its certainly strange how the fungi has sort of embossed itself with the imprint of the leaf, the actual leaf print is some 2 or 3 mm above the rest of the fungi body,
yours look quite impressive too! was yours on daedalopsis? or some other bracket?
your description of it being a fossil is exactly the same as my wifes description of my find (comments of "great minds think alike" in the background)
i am going to try and preserve it with resin if possible, as it is so unusual , i will let you know how it goes
thanks again,
Brian
p:s thanks Mal for the link up |
