| | | Re: chanterelle id help yup I agree too .I was confused by the smell which I have confirmed is present on both. I have learnt a good deal about identification of these funghi.Thanks alot everyone that advised.

| | | Re: chanterelle id help They are false chanterelle. Note the gills and colour. I had a lovely omlette made from them (false chanterelle) for lunch yesterday with no ill effects. Not as tasty as true Chanterelle, nor do they retain the colour when fried. |

| | | Re: chanterelle id help They are False Chanterelles, growing in some quantity just now in the East Lothian area. Only this week I had to empty one pickers basket, it was practically full of them. Very few chanterelles around in this area - only the odd one or two.
It's amazing what some people pick to eat. On Sunday I stopped for a coffee at a country pub and saw a woman with a wicker basket full of boletus chrysenteron.
