| | sawn wood fungus - the remake Hello everyone,
I'm going to stop ferreting about in old wood piles one day, but not yet . . . . . . . .
This one from today has me stumped (!) its on covered sawn timber, quite old and damp, and it has white forms and this grey-green form.
Quite amazing sort of ball shape with tangled hairy surface.
Any help gratefully received.
Cheers
Ken

Ken | moulds are fungi too! - let's not get all mouldist here
looks a bit like Trichoderma viride, but you can't really do them just from macro-shots I fear . . .
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: sawn wood fungus - the remake Quite agree Chris - I was being a bit mouldist (love the new word!) - interesting that its next to white growths, but the greeny bit was under the next piece of wood while the white was exposed.
I thought it strange that some was white, but the green mould on the white bits was something I didnt think of.
Next mouldy question is what was the white stuff . . . . . . .
Cheers
Ken

Ken | quite possibly an earlier stage of the same thing!
I have linked to this before so apologies if you know all this, but before dismissing moulds read: Trichoderma viride, the dark green mold and maker of fungal-digested jeans. Tom Volk's Fungus of the Month for November 2004
anyone interested in fungi should read Tom Volk's online articles
excellent stuff . . .
best
Chris

Stone washed jeans, not - her indoors was quite impressed with that info - she might even be taking an interest in fungi, you never know.
Amazing stuff fungi isnt it!
Trichoderma viride seems a good bet then - I notice the spores are too small even for microscopy though!
Electron?
Thanks again for opening my eyes.
