| | | Three Bracket Fungi (ID & Confirmation Please) Found all these today: -
I think this is Oak Mazegill, but would appreciate confirmation/other.
Not sure if this is something old & dead it was on the still standing, but dead trunk of what I think is a small Oak.
These two are on the stump, and cut end of the felled trunk of a large old Oak. Both brackets are fairly massive, the one on the stump is about 400mm wide by about 300mm tall. The one on the cut end is easily 600mm across, and not much less in height.
Regards

| I would suggest Alnus instead of Quercus and the funus to be Inonotus radiatus. Quote: |

| That seems like a Phellinus to me. If you live in a quite warm area, may be Phellinus torulosus might be a possibility. But I don't know its distribution in Britain, in most countries this is a rare species.
best regards,
Andreas

The only leaves in the area were in the form of dried oak leaf litter. On the basis of these, I assumed that even the dead tree would be an oak, but admit that it didn't look very oak-like. Quote:

Mike. | Hi Mike, the ones on the ends of the log, the bark of which looks more like a beech to me,
if it is a beech, then a Ganoderma sp would be a likely candidate, as they are common on beech and they do seem to resemble Ganoderma sp;
probably way out , but worth a look.
Brian.
edit: if, as Andreas says, it is a Phellinus sp , then ive got some renaming to do on some of my Ganoderma pics!!
