| | | Re: Bracket for ID please. Hallo,
I think it could well be Daedaleposis confragosa. It seems they become redbrown on pressure. And the tree doesn't look like oak to me, moreover I don't remember having seen Daedalea quercina on the stem of a standing an obviousely living tree.
Do you know the tree? Looks somewhat like apple or cherry or something like that.
best regards,
Andreas

I'm as certain as I can be that the tree was a Beech - Fagus sylvestris, as that particular copse seemed top be solely Beech. No other type of tree within about 200m in any direction.
Would you say they are both the same species?

| | | Re: Bracket for ID please. Hi Mike,
hmmm, don't really know, to be honest. May be I better keep away from those brackets anyway, before I write nonsense ... I'm really not sure, on 2nd look at least the first ones seem indeed more like Daedalea quercina than Daedaleopsis ...
And Daedalea quercina on beech is more likely than Daedaleopsis confragosa, in my eyes, although it would be an uncommon host for both (to my limited knowledge in Germany)
best regards,
Andreas
