| | | "Bracket" on oak roots? hi all
This is way past it's best so may be unidentifiable but I'm hoping that someone might know and be able to tell me if it's a threat to my trees. These were found at the base of a mature oak growing on the ground in lines apparently strung along the subsurface roots of the tree. They were in groups of overlapping brackets or rosettes up to 7 or 8 cm across. As the pictures show they have a short stem and the underside appears spiny although that may be due to the tubes separating as it decayed.
The tree nearest to this died from rot and I'm wondering if this fungus may have been the cause and if I'm going to have to fell this tree as well and whether the other trees in the area are at risk.
Thanks for looking

no idea if this is a threat to the tree - the fungus itself - to me - looks dead and therefore I would say it will be difficult to ID.. but your local council should have a tree expert that can come take a look at the overall health of the tree!
Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help, hope someone else on here can shed a bit more light!
