| | | mystery guessing Hallo,
one of the last threads inspired me to put this little mystery, may be you like guessing what this is.
The species is in a monotypic genus, which is named after one of the best known ascomycetologists of Britain.
Here is the biotop (and you see, daughter is always helping to search ). The species grows on the base of Carex species growing very wet, in this case even below water (what is unusual but due to heavy rainfalls the days ago).
And that's how it looks like:
and a little bit closer. Not very sharp indeed. Look especially at the apothecia signed by the arrow, they give a good macroscopical hint to the species!
The first with a correct answer wins a virtual bottle of beer Cheers!
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: mystery guessing Good morning Andreas,
my very amateur guess centres on a pic in Jordan which is so similar - Lanzia echinophila, but not in water, so I dont hold out much hope for the beer.
By the way, are you paying expenses to come and collect it?
Cheers
Ken

I'm a bit confused . . . is the genus named after the mycologist?
the one that leaps to mind is Graddonia coracina - but isn't that a lignicolous species?
Chris

John | hi John
he was an all rounder; plus the two genera named after him Cookeina and Cookella are not monotypic . . .

Chris | yes, it is the genus name that is named in honor of a british mycologist best known for his publications about ascomycetes.
So Graddonia would suite perfect, but as you already had in mind, this is a lignicolous species and looks somewhat different:
o.k., it was not Graddonia and the beer is still to win. And no, there is no chance that I be responsible for how do you come here for it
best regards,
Andreas

I'm now thinking Dennisiodiscus prasinus (Quél.) Svrček, but am sure there are other Dennisiodiscus species . . . .

| | | Re: mystery guessing I do not of course have much idea on this, but host carex spp might result in one of these? (I did some google rooting about)! - Anthostomella tomicoides
- Micropeziza cornea
