| | | fungi on beech tree for id please these two were found on fallen beech trees(seperate trees)
no1/ this was on a branch of a fallen beech, both on the barkless sections of the branch and also under the loose remaining bark,
is this a resupinate form of Bjerkandera adusta ?? as this is the only species i can find with grey pores,
no2/ this one was also on a fallen beech branch, which was lying on the ground,
is this one beech tarcrust ??, on the trunk it looked smooth , while in the photograph it has a distinctly warty appearance,
(apologies for the poor picture quality, but i was hanging through some very sharp thorned brambles to get the pic
thanks,
Brian. |

not found many of either of these so still a little vague with id's on them,

| | | Re: fungi on beech tree for id please I didn't notice the forming brackets Brian, so I'm thrown into limbo. It's probably one of the two we mentioned, but I haven't got my books on me right now, so I can't throw loads of facts in to the mix. I'm sure someone else will come to your aid! |

| | | Re: fungi on beech tree for id please Hi,
I agree with Bjerkandera adusta.
For the 2nd species I think of some pyrenomycete, but have not further information, sorry.
best regards,
Andreas

regarding the second one, does the beech tarcrust Biscogniauxia nummularia have the warty appearance of this one, or is it usually a smooth surface??

| | | Re: fungi on beech tree for id please Hallo Brian,
always smooth and always sunken in holes of the cortex (or better brekaing the cortex and exposing the stroma. Your pyreno is growing superficially on decorticated wood - Biscogniauxia never wood grow on decorticated wood - but only to my experience!
best regards,
Andreas

It's not that. |
