| | | Trametes hirsuta synonyms while searching for information on Trametes hirsuta recently, i came across this list of synonyms for it,

| | | Re: Trametes hirsuta synonyms Hallo Brian,
indeed! But many of them are only nomenclatoral synonyms, not taxonomic ones. That means, nomenclatural synonymy have the same type and usually have only put into other genera by some reasons. Taxonomic synonyms are taxa, which have a different type and were thought to be different species.
So to arrange that heap of taxa in a more comprehendable way, I would write this like that:
Trametes hirsuta (Wulfen) Pilat 1937
== Boletus hirsutus Wulfen 1789
== Polyporus hirsutus (Wulfen) Fr. 1821
== Polystictus hirsutus (Wulfen) Fr. 1821
== Hansenia hirsuta (Wulfen) P. Karst. 1880
== Coriolus hirsutus (Wulfen) Pat. 1897
== Microporus hirsutus (Wulfen) Kuntze 1898
== Polystictoides hirsutus (Wulfen) Lázaro Ibiza 1916
= Boletus velutinus J.J. Planer 1788
== Coriolus velutinus P. Karst. 1906
= Boletus nigromarginatus Schwein. 1822
== Coriolus nigromarginatus (Schwein.) Murrill 1905
== Microporus nigromarginatus (Schwein.) Kuntze 1898
== Polystictus nigromarginatus (Schwein.) P.W. Graff 1921
= Polyporus vellereus Berk. 1842
== Polystictus vellereus (Berk.) Fr. 1851
== Hansenia vellerea (Berk.) P. Karst. 1880
== Microporus vellereus (Berk.) Kuntze 1898
== Coriolus vellereus (Berk.) Pat. 1921
= Polyporus galbanatus Berk. 1843
== Polystictus galbanatus (Berk.) Cooke 1886
== Microporus galbanatus (Berk.) Kuntze 1898
= Polyporus cinerescens Lév. 1844
== Polystictus cinerescens (Lév.) Sacc. 1888
= Polyporus cinereus Lév. 1846
= Polyporus gourliei Berk. 1860
== Fomes gourliei (Berk.) Cooke 1885
== Scindalma gourliei (Berk.) Kuntze 1898
= Trametes porioides Lázaro Ibiza 1917
= Polyporus fagicola Velen. 1922
Misappl.: Daedalea polyzona sensu auct.
In publications the sign "==" is printed as a triple-equal, which I don't have on the keyboard.
Nomenclatural remark:
One could wonder, why the species is named Trametes hirsuta and not Trametes velutinus, as Boletus velutinus Planer 1788 is one year older than Boletus hirsutus Wulfen 1789. But as the name of WULFEN has been adopted by FRIES in 1821, this name is sanctioned, whereas the name of PLANER is not.
If one would point to that nomenclatural sight, one could write "Trametes hirsuta (Wulfen 1789 : Fr.) Fries 1821. The addition ": Fr." means "sanctioned by Fries" and indicates this sanctioned status of the species. In daily use usually the sanctioning sign is left, because it is not needed and only important when discussion nomenclatural problems.
best regards,
Andreas

Andreas | Hi Andreas,
it makes a bit more sense laid out like that!
i would think it was much harder for recording purposes etc back in 1788 than it is today, just imagine no internet and all its resources
