1.

I Think it was growing on sycamore. Found in a small copse.

2.

Growing on a stump in mixed deciduous woodland, couldnt tell what species the stump was but think it may have been beech.

No.1 looks like Dead Man's Fingers - Xylaria polymorpha

Can't help with No. 2 though.

Don't suppose you got a look underneath the second one Doggydogg? From this view, it looks uncannily like Cantherellus tubaeformis, but that would be a very vague suggestion as I say, without a shot of the underside.

That would be excellent. If you could just upend it and tell us whether it has gills or folds, that would be enough! A photograph of the underside, if it's no trouble

Hi,

I was just about to write something like "if it hadn't the strange cap shape, it might even be a Lactarius" .....

But i think Tubaria is a much better idea. If it is not something whitespored which looks so brownish because it was frozen.

My suggestion was based upon a 'crop' of C. tubaeformis that were almost identical to this. Unfortunately, they succumbed to the frost

Hi Nick,

I had sorted out Craterellus tubaeformis (frozen) because of the parts of gills that you see and which have no furcation at all. O.k., you only see a small part of them, so may be it's not a good argument. But from the feeling I would exclude Craterellus.
