| | | fungi on dead oak query. Hi,
any thoughts on this one. It is part of a group of five or six that were growing on a branch of a fallen oak tree. Sizes varied between one and four cm. They were all peeling from the top like this one.
Apologies for photo quality, it was high up so the picture was taken holding the camera at arms length above my head, pointing it in the general direction and hoping.
Cheers

This one is a steroid fungus, may be a Stereum or may be Lopharia spadicea or something. I have not a really convincing idea for species, to be honest.
best regards,
Andreas

Thanks for the suggestions Andreas, I have looked up a couple of images of L. spadicea which seem similar. I will go back and try to reach the branch (this may involve a chainsaw ) to get better pictures and a collect a sample.

| | | Re: fungi on dead oak query. Well that fungus looks very like what I create on Shrove Tuesday ... though if the heat is too high it could be Bjerkandera adusta, with fine pores ...
Sorry Chris, but you've misidentified KT's lunch, it is Polyporus squamosus, as illustrated in Jordan ...
