maybe a Boletus

Hi All

found this today in Copley woods Somerset think it must be some sort of Boletus
the cap was about 4cm across no smell

not a Boletus but a Polyporus; there appears to be a blackish base to the stem and I think that the most likely candidate would be Polyporus leptocephalus, which appears in many books as Polyporus varius

I would agree with Chris.

Your find looks very much like these Black-foot Polypore's Polyporus leptocephalus that I found recently.

agreed. the stipe of yours looks blackish at the bottom.

it did have a black base just can't see it in the photos. and looking at Mike's photo I think I would have to agree you both
