There are fungi about all year, it's just some take longer to find! Having a browse of this forum will give you an idea what is about and what people are finding. It's nearly Ascomycete season, when you'll find the small cups and clubs! Then it'll be time for St. George's and Morels, then before you know it, the first Ceps and Chanterelles will be up to mark the start of the serious season.
Enjoy it, and you've got loads of time to swat up before the serious fungi start popping up!
Cheers and enjoy, you've stumbled across one of the best fungi resources available.

Thanks | Hi Mushroomman and welcome to WAB.
Fungi appear all through the year, although the main season is normally autumn. If you look in the fungi Gallery you should see what people are finding at the present time (apart from one or two recent additions which were from last autumn).
Years vary and it often depends where you are. 2008 wasn't as good as 2007 in general and 2009 ... well, who knows! it could be good, it could be excellent but one thing for sure is that it will always be interesting

Thanks very much, im really looking forward to becoming part of the WAB community, i think i'll just keep my eye out while learning as much as possible before autumn. i'm looking forward to going hunting and i live near Risley Moss which is apparently a good place, the only fear i have is the fact that Risley Moss just happens to be the home of the only venomious snake in britain , but that wont stop me, Thanks for your input. |

You're lucky to have adders and a cracking bit of habitat right on your doorstep. If you want to learn a bit more about adders and reptiles in general, there's a survey training course being held at Risley Moss Visitor Centre on 22nd April, hosted by the Herpetological Conservation Trust - see their website if you're interested.
Good luck with the fungi hunting but don't forget there's much more out there! |

Nice image of Yateley Common, David. |
