| | | Mycena zephirus I found lots of Baeospora back in December but also came across
some Mycena alongside them. I had great problems with them but have just had them confirmed (identified ) as Mycena zephirus

Just looked it up ...
From Checklist of British and Irish Basidiomycota it says:
"Habitat: On soil in deciduous or mixed coniferous and deciduous woodland.
Notes: A single collection from South Aberdeenshire (Braemar) in 1961. Reported from Yorkshire but unsubstantiated with voucher material.
Distribution: E: ?, S: !
So now there should be a ! next to E ... well done ...
You now just need KT to put a line of stars next to this thread.

Melanie | First I haven't actually heard of this mycena so good find.
Second was the star thing meant in an angry or funny way. I didn't know whether to be annoyed or embarassed because of the lack of smilies. |

| | | Re: Mycena zephirus Hallo,
in Germany Mycena zephirus is one of the most common Mycena species in late autumn. Should it really be such a rarity in Great Britain?
Here we find it growing in large amounts (often hundreds) in the needle bed of different conifers, I have never seen it in decidous forests. I ahve never seen it growing on wood (or cones), though it is said to grow on very rotten small conifer debris.
best regards,
Andreas
