| | | Two Jelly Fungi for ID Please. Found today in a Beech/Oak woodland.
First on a fallen branch (Beech) - Is it likely to be Beech Jellydisc ( Neobulgaria pura)? or just a washed out Tremella mesenterica (Formerly T. lutescens)?
Second on end of a felled trunk (Oak) - Posssibly Tremella sp. but no real idea on this one.
As always, any pointers to ID appreciated.
Regards

| | | Re: Two Jelly Fungi for ID Please. Unsure on the first Mike, though if I had to suggest something, it would be N. pura as you've said.
The second, I think is Tremella foliacea. It has the classic wrinkly appearance.

| | | Re: Two Jelly Fungi for ID Please. Hallo,
the first picture is Myxarium nucleatum. You can see in some fruitbodies the characteristic core inside, very nice foto!
the second I'm not sure, but to me it looks like a small fruitbody of Tremella foliacea. I don't know which species T. foliacea parasites, but in your picture there is also Stereum rugosum. May be that is a hint, but the Stereum is not necessarily the host.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Two Jelly Fungi for ID Please. Thanks Nick & Andreas, I didn't hold out much hope for positive ID's on these.
Sorry to pester you again, but is Myxarium nucleatum a synonym for Exidia nucleata?
(I believe it has been mentioned on other threads that there is web searchable database which provides such information on names, but I haven't managed to find it yet ).
Regards

It may be of use .... there is a simple key (macroscopic) to Exidia on the BMS website by Peter Roberts.
Also those white spots are apparently Calcium oxalate. When the fruit body dries that is about all you can see, and very easy to miss.
I found some the other day, very pretty with pale shades of green through mauve to orange.
These ones dried and were almost invisible, but are now are a really big mass of jelly as it has been raining ...
