| | | Stereum Another one from my walk by the Thames at Datchet last weekend. Unfortunately only able to get the underside as it was quite high up the tree (willow I think, but might be poplar) and I'm no good at climbing.
Have had a good look through my Roger Phillips and reckon Stereum is the closest I'm going to get.
Any suggestions appreciated

the genral appearance is more likely to be a Trametes s.l. then a Stereum s.l.. Usually Stereum is growing flat and may have some smal "caps". With trametes it's just the opposit: They grow usually with caps, but sometimes have flat parts of the fruitbody too, especially when growing on upright surface.
I don't see pores, that's right, but nevertheless I would wonder if this would turn out to be a Stereum. If so, it could only be S. rugosum, but the habit would be *very* unusual!
