I thought cervinus because its the right colour, its on a log, and the gills are pinkish |

| | | Re: Pluteus salicinus confirmation Not at all KT, don't be so silly. You're doing very well, but make sure you use your books as much as you can!!! The reason I say P. salicinus is that in general it's smaller and much more pale cream to grey rather than red hues. Although Pete's specimen does show red hues, I wouldn't really consider them to be characteristic of P. cervinus |

It has the textured centre and a pure white stipe which is more in keeping with salicinus rather than cervinus.

But is indeed the purely white stipe, that separates it sufficiently from cervinus-stipe with its black strips. Cervinus ss.str. also has a quite strong smell as radish.
