| | | Are These 3 Coloured Brackets The Same ? Found today - three different colours of bracket, growing together on end of a log. The individual brackets were quite small, only about 25-50mm wide, and very thin, maybe 3mm average thickness.
I'm not sure if they are all the same type of fungi, (at different stages), but it seems odd that the three colours were in distinct "colour" groups.
The full grouping: -
Light Colour Bracket........Mid Colour Bracket........Dark Colour Bracket
Any pointer to ID much appreciated.
Regards

I think they are all different ages of trametes versicolour |

the light and the dark coloured are both colour forms of Trametes versicolor, but the mid coloured are Bjerkandera adusta.
best regards,
Andreas

best regards,
Andreas | Thanks Andreas, I will try to re-visit the site and closely inspect the fungi to see if I can find any distinguishing differences to help me with future identifications.

Mike. | The beautiful dark blue velvety appearance is quite distinctive, so that is easy for the blue variety of Trametes versicolor! Otherwise look carefully at the colour of the undersides ... you should spot a difference ... pore size/shapes are not so very different though.

Melanie | I did have a look at the undersides, and the one that is now identified as Bjerkandera adusta had a grey undersurface, while the other two ( Trametes versicolor) were white underneath.
Probably should have realised at the time that this would be indicative of different species, but there are so many variables - I sometimes don't know what is relevant and what isn't.
Anyway, I should be a lot more confident about these two from now on.

| As they get older the Trametes versicolor become more creamy/buff underneath.
I know what you mean about which details to really look for .... probably everything! And then more ...
