| | | Small Wavy Bracket for ID Please. Found this today: -
Surface appears to have bands of short whitish hair like structures.
Size overall about 50mm x 75mm, and about 40mm tall.
Any pointers for identification would be appreciated.
Regards

ken | I was half leaning towards S. hirsutum Ken, but I'm not yet confident with these small brackets. (There seems to be so many different variations ).

SH can have the yellow resupinate growth underneath, probably hidden by the moss, but the appearance , particularly those whiteish hairs shout SH to me and nothing else!

| | | Re: Small Wavy Bracket for ID Please. I`m not entirely sure about S. hirsutem but I`m not an expert. The rosette shape of the left hand pic could suggest S. subtomentosum which is described as finely downy? The right hand pic looks like crispy bacon! good job I`ve had my tea.
Cheers

Phillips doesn't include S. subtomentosum, but in Jordan it is stated to be rare apart from in the southernmost counties of England.
As my find was in Lancashire, and the fungi is in great abundance in the location (Sunnyhurst Woods), I assume that it would most likely discount S. subtomentosum. - Or is it a lot more widespread than Jordan says?
