Is this Hypoxylon howeanum?

A few days ago I posted a pic of what turned out to be Hypoxylon fragiforme, but Hypoxylon howeanum was suggested, but rejected on the basis that H. howeanum was more of a terracotta colour, well I found this fungus yesterday, and it seems to be a terracotta colour.



Am I right?

H. fragiforme goes from pinkish, through browns to black depending on age. (and favours Beech).

H. howeanum remains more terracotta brown, but can have purply grey tinges, but grows on hazel & alder.

So if you know what tree it was on, you might have the more likely candidate.

yes I believe it is because they do blacken as well
