Is this a hoof fungus?

I took this picture today, top down on what I think is a hoof fungus, am I correct?

the colour looks right. A shot of the underside might confirm it to be hoof fungus. On the other hand it could be a really old Ganoderma

I'd say that the chances are high that this is Fomes fomentarius. The species grows predominantly on Birch, so I'd use that info to make an educated assumption.
