| | | Re: New Year IDs What substrate is the first growing on? With anything like this you need to cut it (a clean slash through it) to see if it discolours or bleeds. Structurally, it looks like Stereum gausapatum, but without that info you'll never know! |

It just turned really deep maroon colour in the groove. |

Stereum gausapatum (the Bleeding Oak Crust) tends to be darker in the centre than S. rugosum (the Bleeding Broadleaf Crust) so I would go with that and the fact it was on Beech I would go for the latter.
