| | fungi in lancashire Hello All
I was wondering if anyone would identify this photograph of fungi for me please it was taken by my wife whilst out walking this morning.

That's a Polyporus species. You can see the pores rather than gills on the underside. Going by the time of year, the size and the substrate (providing that there's a dead log under that carpet of moss), I'd say that this is probably Polyporus brumalis. It's a robust species and survives frosts giving it the common name - Winter Polypore.

it is a dead log on which it stands.
i was under the impression that fungi only lived around september, so was quite shocked to see this one.
