| | | A Nice Cluster Of Flammulina Spotted this nice cluster of Flammulina velutipes (Velvet Shank) yesterday.
I've seen quite a few smaller groupings, but this one looked quite impressive.
Regards

But I noticed that there are quite a lot just emerging, so If I get chance to go back in the near future, the grouping might look even better.

Must admit, I've never risked eating anything other than normal shop bought mushrooms. Does the wild stuff have substantially different tastes depending on what species it is? - or do they all taste much of a muchness ?

| | | Re: A Nice Cluster Of Flammulina Ooooh Mike! That means you've never tasted real mushrooms
Shop bought mushrooms have a good texture and an average taste. However, wild mushrooms have a very intense taste. Texture, however varies from species to species. Ceps and Winter Chanterelle that I picked this season are dried and put in an air tight jar. Whenever I make pasta, I add a few and it boosts the flavour so much! I find Ceps very strong and mushroomy, whereas I think Chanterelles are more nutty.
Stewy will tell you the joys of wild mushrooms.
You're missing out if you've not had freshly picked wild mushies
It's another dimension added to the joy of fungi | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
