| | | Re: Clitocybe sp. for id Probably a Clitocybe, but you're going to need much, much more information to help us go by I don't mean this specimen solely, I mean absolutely everything! If not, it's not a problem, but you've much less chance of getting your specimen identified.
For one, you'll need to state what substrate it was growing on, i.e- was it on wood?, growing under Pine?, in moss under Birch?, etc...
Secondly, smell is very important- many species of mushroom have distinctive smells that aid successful identification. Some might smell of pear drops, some of moth balls, some of coal tar and some of anise. When confident enough, taste is key. I wouldn't openly encourage a beginner to go around sampling things, but once you've got a solid idea of genus characteristics to be able to narrow down and work out what's safe or not, then it can be incredibly helpful to have a nibble.
Take note of if it bleeds or bruises when cut or damaged. Some species 'bleed' such as Mycena galopus and some 'stain' chrome yellow like Agaricus xanthodermus. Always add any extra notes to give us an idea if it was growing solitary or part of a troop, or growing alongside another species so we might work out a pattern of a symbiotic or mutualistic relationship, such as that shown by Gomphidius roseus and Suillus bovinus.
Even with that included, and sharp pictures detailing every key aspect of your fungus, there's absolutely no guarantee that you'll get an identification.
Nick
