| | | Houghton Moor This one was found in mixed woodland at the side of the path and I have`nt a clue as to its identity. Does it ring any bells with anyone? Cap and stem were very felty and I think i detect a lilac tinge to the gills of the immature specimen shown. Could it be a Blewit?
Cheers

I have great respect for these, even if they are common, near me they seem to fruit all season long, come rain, shine, frost ... find any Wax Caps nearby?

Melanie | Me too Melanie. A very handsome species and often seen at Longshaw over a long fruiting period.

I`ve got a lot to learn. I`d never have got that, the books don`t tell you everything but hopefully I`m getting to know my locals. I`ve never seen any reference to powder caps . The common names are often helpful in a descriptive sense whereas you need to be adept at Latin to read anything into the correct synonym.
BTW here are some pictures of my current pride & joy, a beautiful ring of Trooping Funnel that have stood since the beginning of November, having withstood some very hard frosts. Quote:

Melanie | No waxcaps round here Melanie but I did have a colourful selection some time ago, that I couldn`t identify. I think I have a thread about them somewhere.
