One thing KT (not related to the ID), I'm sure I speak for John in saying that he wont mind that you've suggested something separate from his ID- it's the kind of thing that sparks excellent debates on the forum. So you've no need to apologise when you make a different suggestion

I think your right. I have learnt a lot of things from past threads like the handkea sps and the lepista sps.

I think John was right. I'm afraid the quality of the photo doesn't help, but having seen it I'm sure it wasn't Trametes versicolor, which is one of the few brackets I know.

No worries KT I too was often caught out with this species until Mykonik Nick explained

... this is the equally common polypore Bjerkandera adusta, with the grey edge to the basidiomes (since the pore surface is also smoke -grey !) ...

Quite typical this time of year!
