| | | Couple of Usnea ..... Back again!
Are these two photos of Usnea florida (sorry for poor first photo, if I'd known the apothecia was there I'd have focused on it, didn't realise until checking later!)
2. Both below Usnea cornuta in varying states of decay?
3. Hypogymnia tubulosa? |

| | | Re: Couple of Usnea ..... The presence of the apothecium does favour florida. Certainly the detailed picture doesn't show features I'd expect on subfloridana.
I can't pick out the constrictions where side branches leave the main branch which is characteristic of U. cornuta, so cannot help with 2.
3 certainly looks like a Hypogymnia, with the thallus in a tubular shape. No soredia so reluctant to go any further.

I still think this is a job for a hand-lens. I can see constrictions on the main stem, but can't convince myself about the side stems. AlanS made a remark that U. cornuta has a rather different jizz from, say, U. subfloridana, but I don't have that experience. I also have a specimen of the latter species in a pot next to the computer, which makes it a lot easier to do comparisons with photos. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
