| | sawn wood fungus incomer? Hello all,
I have rooted through my books, but this one is another problem child for me - can anyone help please?
Small troop on sawn wood planks (pine I think) - its a tiny fawn slightly rounded but flattish cap, covered in small hairyness - sadly I didnt check the stem, but can return next weekend to do so if no positive outcome of this request. No noticeable odour.
The wood is likely to be sourced in scandinavia, so there may be a european wide consideration needed.
it was thriving on only one plank, in pretty dark, covered conditions, very damp and kept near against a brick wall, so not too frosty.
thanks
Ken

I see there has been a lot of silence re this one
I am assuming it is a discomycete? (I would imagine we are in the complex waters of Hymenoscyphus and its relatives); if it has gills it's a very strange thing indeed please collect and dry some fruitbodies (cutting off as close to the plank as possible) or PM me and send some fresh ones via first class post
it is clear that the fungus is present throughout a large extent of the wood and collecting half a dozen fruitbodies will not hurt it in the least and it could be something really interesting and getting a name for it could be very significant
cheers
Chris

Does this help?
Also, have you any specific contacts, e-mail etc at Kew, rather than using a website address?
I might be able to cut the plank off Chris, but that might damage whats left, in terms of habitat drying out etc, so I would prefer to take some samples and leave the others in situ.
Thanks a lot
Ken

I gather the common name is shaggy parasolette.

John | Response from Kew (Peter Roberts and Brian Spooner) is that from the pics it might be a discomycete (as Chris said!) - Pezicula livida.
I havent got this in my books, nor can I find an image on the web - have you guys out there got any views on the possible ID, a picture source (cant findan image on bioimages) of it or rarity status (or otherwise) and description?
Or where to delve further?
Thanks all.

Try Species data - British fungi
as a first port of call.

This is the only image i can find claiming to be your species, i see this is
synonyme. (i have sketch written description for Peziza lividula but fear that
is a different species).
The polish atlas of fungi is always worth a look and does have a
pezicula.sp.
