| | fomes ?? Hi all, this big boy was growing on a shattered old stump of oak - its about 14'' across.
Is it hoof fungus, fomes fomentarius, even though its on oak?(generally accepted as a beech/birch/sycamore friend).
any other bracket suggestions?

I know your disinclination to pick things! 
however all you would need to do in this instance is scrape some of that cinnamon-coloured deposit on the cap surface into a small packet, and send it to me and I'd be happy to give you an ID to species (or would at least try to!)
