| | | Coprinus dilemma Aside from the complication of taxonomic reclassification into Coprinellus and Coprinopsis I have always had 'in field' problems in distinguishing young specimens of Common Inkcap from rain washed Glistening Inkcap devoid of their mica-like velar particles.
Now I learn there are other interlopers in the form of Coprinellus truncorum and C. radians which could add to the confusion and wondered if anyone has personal experience or knowledge of the latter species which would have any bearing. I appreciate it is inevitable that microscopic investigation will be key to differentiation.

The Common Ink Cap is normally noticeably larger and more substantial but as you say microscopy of the cap and spores is the only way especially for the truncorum etc sorry
