I think it is a Galerina of some sort rather than a Mycena

the bright coloration and relatively distant gills suggest Galerina clavata; but to get to a species in Galerina you do have to do the microscope work I'm afraid Galerina clavata has been present in my (mossy) lawn in hundreds recently though I suspect the frosts will now see it off!
here are images of the fruit-bodies:
the specialized cells (cystidia) of the gill edge - which in this species have a characteristic 'skittle' shape:
and the rather large (for a Galerina) almond-shaped spores:
if you want to dry some of the specimens and send them to me (PM me re this) I'm happy to have a look at them for you
best wishes
Chris

Mal | Hi Mal, thanks for that, after another look through Jordans and Phillips books, i think you are right on the ball, species will have to remain as a ???? though,

Chris | Hi Chris,
thanks for the detailed info, as for the dried sample,as they were only a very small group i did not take a sample, and left them in the hope that there might be more in the future,
