Help with fungi id please

I found this today in leaf litter under broad leaf trees - including oak, as you will see. It's somewhat viscid, especially at the cap margin, and there is a slight indentation at the margin between each gill. Still waiting for the spore print.

My key suggests Hygrophorus, but I'm not convinced.

Help please.

Wow - you are keen. I'd hardly pressed the return key.

I think the gills are wrong for Hygrocybe virginea, not sufficiently decurrent, and the cap is overall more brown than white. I'm happy to be proved wrong.

A quick search of the WAB Gallery backs up your theory BROCSMAN:

Snowy Waxcap - Hygrocybe virginea var virginea doesn't fit the bill.

But as to an alternative suggestion I'm afraid I'm no help.

Does it mention that the gill should be decurrent

I'd say keep thinking hygrophorus because of the viscid cap ... Was the stem slimy? Any strong smells?

I'm not good on smells, but it didn't seem to be particularly strong. The indentations on the edge of the cap are so distinctive it should be easy to spot, but I can't find a match.

sorry I admit I was wrong because the gills aren't decurrent in this sample
