Excellent, KT, there will be no stopping you now ... does you college have a copy of Roy Watling's 'Identification of the larger fungi' in the library (or possibly in your public library)? I discovered a copy lurking on my bookshelves that I'd forgotten I'd got, and it is really good for describing and showing in drawings what to expect to see down the microscope for a range of the more common species. It has been out of print for many years, but still lurks in some libraries. And it was written specifically for sixth form or undergraduate students and amateurs to enable them to identify fungi, and is very well and simply written, you don't have to wade through lots of complicated terms.
