It certainly is: but unfortunately - while it does mention microscopic features - it doesn't show the cystidia (specialized cells) along the gill edge which distinguish Conocybe hadrocystis from C. arrhenii and from the five or so other species in the subgenus Pholiotina which all look rather similar macroscopically . . .

I think that's quite a specific area to be studying and warrants literature at the time of study, so I'd not say that this is a disadvantage of this book

No, agreed - I would never give anything but praise to Mr Phillips for his publications on fungi and numerous other areas (his Pan book on Vegetables is wonderful . . . seriously!)
