the first one does look like a Birch Polypore.
The second I would say Trametes gibbosa

| | | Re: Birch Polypore + mazegill, possibly? Trametes gibbosa is prone to beetle larvae attack and a good pointer to look out for are crumbly grains of the cap below the specimen - usually if it is growing in tiers a specimen below another has these white granules on it. Just a little tip there.

thanks for the tip I will keep it in mind for the future, but I couldn't do much observing on that occasion as i had to hold the camera above my head to get the top shot of the trametes gibbosa ... lucky it came out as well as it did, handy things those little swivel screens!
