| | | ID Help for 3 Fungi Please. Found this yesterday, and not sure what the mass of tiny black beadlike objects are.
It was growing on a fallen beech trunk, in very close proximity to Ascocoryne sp. purple jelly fungus (small bits of which visible in pics.).
These found today in coniferous woodland under spruce.
Slightly umbilicate caps, largest about 30mm across.
Not sure if it is something that's just gone past its best.
Also found today (mixed woodland) not sure of what type tree it was growing on. size about 75mm x 125mm (Still got frost/ice on top).
Any pointers much appreciated.
Regards

| | | Re: ID Help for 3 Fungi Please. hi lad from across the Pennines! #1 difficult to get the scale here, but the pinkish one could be the discomycete Ascocoryne sarcoides and the black 'caviar' one is a pyrenomycete - it looks rather like Rosellinia aquila, but there are others
(we are really into microscope land with these I'm afraid) #2 is I suspect one of the extremely confusing late autumn Clitocybes that all look very similar; I predicted on another thread that these fellows will start regularly appearing on WAB #3 that pinkish cap colour is very distracting, but from what I can see of the spore-bearing undersurface my money would be on Daedalea quercina (was it on oak?)
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: ID Help for 3 Fungi Please. Hi Chris, thanks for your reply.
Fungi 1 - I thought the Ascocoryne might possibly be cylichnium, because the main grouping (not on this pic, but on this post I made yesterday: - 3 More Fungi for ID Please) the individuals were a good 2cm across. (Do sarcoides get larger than 1.5cm?).
I'll settle for Ascocoryne sp. though. - It was the "caviar" that I was trying to get a steer on, so Pyrenomycete (possibly Rosellinia aquila) is great.
Fungi 2 - I'm happy to get as far as Clitocybe sp. for this.
Fungi 3 - There was Oak & Beech in the area (unfortunate that fallen oak leaves are showing on the pic). I couldn't tell what the fallen trunk was - it was well rotted and mainly covered in moss etc. (Should have taken a proper underneath photo of the fungus - I will try to remember next time. ).
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Mike.

Hapalopilus nidulans would be a similar colour but it is usually a small soft and rubbery bracket. This specimen looks too sturdy and too solid.
