hi everybody
today's quiz . . . collected this in a conifer plantation yesterday - it had me confused for a while
any suggestions? clues will follow if necessary . . .

well done for having a go, mate! no-one else has dared . . .; it was only as I was processing the images that I realised what I hadn't noted in the field
the clue is the fruit-body at the extreme right

That is the one that stood out to me I must admit, and for a while I thought it was a Tricholoma, or are you going to tell me that these are Hypholoma marginatum ?  |

look carefully at the right hand one despite the fact that for ID purposes the extreme left hand one is far more useful

I don't have a clue, LOL
Ring evidence, white gills that look quite waxy, free attachment (as far as I can see).
The cap reminds me of Gymnopilus, but it's not that.

yes I had brought it home as a potential Gymnopilus - but as you can see the spores are wrong (they wouldn't be smooth, and would very like Cortinarius spores)
the clue is what is around the base of the right hand one . . . burnt stuff!!
and I simply did not spot that under all the needles in the field now have a go
