| | Turkey Tail fungus ? ID please One of today's finds, I not sure what it is exactly ... I think it has moss staining .... any takers? Thanks again.
Sorry I'm low on details as usual... I hope to get a decent Fungi ID book for Xmas .... any recommendations ... am thinking of
Encyclopedia of Fungi of Britain and Europe by Michael Jordan

| | | Re: Turkey Tail fungus ? ID please I'd say that this is indeed Trametes versicolor and the 'staining' is Algae! Algae forms more commonly and familiarly on the sibling of this species, T. gibbosa.
As for books, a recent edition of Mushrooms by Roger Phillips will do you proud as well as the Jordan you mention. |

| VERY!!! (Especially when used in conjunction with all the extremely helpful and knowledgable folk on here )
I also use Roger Phillips' Mushrooms on-line a lot (not having yet got round to buying the book) - Rogers Mushrooms | Mushroom Pictures & Mushroom Reference
Your photo certainly looks like Trametes versicolor (Turkey Tail) but it would help to know what the underneath looked like - as in the size of the pores. Wait a little while and there's bound to be an expert (or three!) along any minute.
Edit: There, you see - one came along in the time it took me to post this! |
