Martin | Hi Martin,
With not a lot to go on, I would say that you have Xerula radicata there, which is typical of beech woods. It has a long rooting stipe, which is generally attached to roots or buried wood. The cap is wrinkled in the centre with a bump, looking not unlike a nipple. Have fun.

While I agree the cap, from what we can see, could be radicata I would normally expect the stipe to be tough and smooth and I don't think I have ever seen one eaten like this.

| | | Re: Unidentified fungi Is there an argument against Melanoleuca sp here? I only ask because I have found similar specimens recently which I am struggling with. Admittedly the habitat may be significant, mine were in grass.
Cheers

| | | Re: Unidentified fungi Hi Marti, nice shot of the culprit!
I'd say that this is Xerula radicata- gills pure white, a token brown cap and the typical 'lanky' structure. |

Don't suppose you have one showing the top of the cap

Mal | Having seen these different shots, I'm even more convinced, the gills are a dead give away, its Xerula radicata.
