| | | Help with an ID please.
Can some one please give me an ID on this please.I thought that it would be easy to find as the gills were such a Purple/lilac colour but I have had no joy.
Has it gone passed its best. I have no idea.
Found in a newly planted copse of Birch (I think) trees on Foulness Island.
Thanks

Without getting into too much depth it is a Lepista either nuda or sordida there is a big discussion going on in another thread about the differences.

Mal | very tactful Mal
I think this is unquestionably Lepista nuda - neither top nor bottom showing any 'dull brown coloration'
Chris

| | | Re: Help with an ID please. For me this is certainly Lepista sordida. The reason being the over all size, dimensions and the striations on the cap - you can just about see them!
In my experience the colour of Lepista sordida varies considerably - it does not have to have any or much 'dull brown colouration'. In fact the colour of Lepista nuda varies a lot too. I have found some almost white examples. And no, they are not Lepista saeva. If I get the chance I will try and get them at lunch time and post some pics in the other thread. |

| | | Re: Help with an ID please. Ah yes, the one in this feild guide looks like Lepista sordida var. aianthina. But the one in this thread looks like Lepista sordida var. sordida
And as these guys say: FHA - Relationship among Lepista species determined by CAPS and RAPD - Article Summary
"The data suggest that the classification of morphospecies and varieties within Lepista cannot be determined on the basis of morphology alone." |

| | | Re: Help with an ID please. I'd agree with Pete upon first sight here. I'd have said that is way too flimsy and oddly proportioned to be L. nuda. I'd have said this was L. sordida. Lepista are turning out to be a bit tricky- gives us something to think and learn on though, right? |
