Good call KT, but S. paradoxa usually wraps around its substrate. It usually shows quite distinctive pores too- relatively large (visible anyway  )

Never mind KT, the route to fungi identification is a mixture of feeling
good/glum (with much of the latter).
I'm sure by next autumns clumber meet you will confidently identifying
one out of twenty (or is that fifty) just like the rest of us.
