| | | Indentification help! HI
Can anyone help on the identification of this tree fungus please.
I have had 2 sugestions (Thanks Cybershot) of Meripilus giganteus - Giant Polypore, or Grifola frondosa
Thank you

I would agree with Cybershot on the first as Meripilus. The second one is dead, deceased, it is no more and I think you will stay baffled.

| | | Re: Indentification help! Good to get this one sorted and confirmed as Meripilus giganteus - I am always a bit unsure when trying to decide between the two species from photographic evidence alone. One field guide suggests that Grifola frondosa - Hen Of the Woods is more greyish-brown in colour (as opposed to yellow-brown becoming dark brown always with a paler margin), the pores don't blacken on ageing or bruising and favours oaks rather than beeches.
A good image to get labeled correctly Vix and submitted as your debut to the Main (fungi) Gallery.
Cheers

| | | Re: Indentification help! Ok so how do I do that? Do I have to upload again or can I put a link to it?
Also how can I move unidentified fungi to indentified?
I'm sure I'll get the hang of this sooner or later! |

| | | Re: Indentification help! I'm afraid the Gallery software is such that the only way to get your image into the main Gallery is to re-upload making sure you title in the format 'Giant Polypore - Meripilus giaganteus' and describe with as much detail as you wish about the species and when and where it was found.
Once you have opted to re-upload to the main Gallery (Fungi Pictures) I've never seen much advantage in switching between the various Image Library categories. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
