| | A possible Entoloma! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I think this is an Entoloma- just 'looks' like an Entoloma. I know that's not usually a good enough reason, but I noticed the pink spores sitting at the top of the stipe- accompany that with pink gills and wahey, that's where my diagnosis came from
Slight mealy smell, 25mm cap diameter and you can estimate the stipe length Growing in numbers but distributed evenly throughout short grass on chalky soil. Some specimens growing with moss.
Any thoughts?
All help and suggestions appreciated

I think you could well be right on Entoloma . . . . a quick look at the spores under the microscope would sort that one . . . .
probably one of the 'mycenoid' or 'collybioid' ones . . . .
and now you start to hate me - is the pigmentation in the exterior cap hyphae extracellular, intracellular or encrusting?
does it have cystidia on the gill edge? . . . .
I only ask these questions because I put myself through this each time I look at one of these things myself
did you collect it? do you have it to check some of the micro-characters? I'm lucky because I do have Nordeloos' books on the genus, so anything else you can glean would help
there's well over 300 Entolomas (so far) recorded for Europe
anyway don't let me put you off, mate let's see how far we can take it
Chris

BUT
It has been growing there since about September, so I'm sure it'll keep. I seem to see it alot!
Cheers!
By the way, check your messages Chris |

Nick | Take a look at Entoloma sericeum Nick, it is the most common of these little-med sized BJ's and has a distinct mealy smell. Good place to start.
