| | | Chieilymenia fibrillosa
Welcome any comments on this beauty found today amongst moss in
mixed woodland.
X1000
The hyaline spores and swollen tips to paraphyses seem to make it Cheilymenia fibrillosa =Pseudoaluria.
Cheers J.P.

| | | Re: Chieilymenia fibrillosa hi
what are the spore dimensions?; could you provide a micro-shot of the hairs?
the moss looks like Mnium hornum . . . this could be a Neotiella
cheers
Chris

Chris | The moss could be Atrichum undulatum rather than Mnium hornum - the leaves look too wrinkled for Mnium. Don't know if this makes any difference.

| | | Re: Chieilymenia fibrillosa Having been with JP when this was found and on other occasions when we have discovered Neotiella I will be more than a little surprised if this is what it is proved to be: But that wouldn't be the first, or last, time for an eventuality of such a nature.

| | | Re: Chieilymenia fibrillosa I'm really struggling at the edge of my ability with these but that is a
learning experience.
X1000 in cotton blue
The hairs i would describe as downy rather than spiny and definately
septate.
X1000 in congo red.

The paraphyses have swoolen tips and do appear to contain some yellow granules.
X1000 in congo red
The main problem is the spores, certainly at the bottom (or below) size for Neottiela,
the (Ellis+Ellis)description is reticulate (having a net like pattern on the surface) which i can
find no sign of, and containing droplets, the above may just about appear to contain one
droplet but i would be cautious that such is infact an artifact of the cover slip resting on
the spore.
Perfectly happy to be wrong and learn from that, and sorry my photomicrographs aren't of
a better quality. At the stage where i would like to send this for expert appraisal but as i
have not yet heard back on the two dung fungi i sent in can well imagine they are busy
this time of year.
Hope i havn't photographed any contaminants by mistake , did find what looked like a
pollen grain.
Cheers J.P.
