| | help - deathcap poisoning? hi
i touched a mushroom yesterday, i think it was a deathcap, i washed my hands when i returned home about an hour later. about 6-10 hours later i felt very sick, no actual vomiting though.
i am VERY worried, can the toxin be absorbed through the skin? can i suffer serious helth problems from this??
i have a pic but its not very clear that it is/isnt a deathcap
please help, need advice

You cannot have been poisoned by just touching the mushroom.
You would have had to eat it.
Read this thread - it will give you the necessary reassurance. Can You Be POISONED by touching mushrooms?
Regards

| | | Re: help - deathcap poisoning? Hi Jo - I think you'll be fine. Please calm down. You didn't eat any. People have tasted it and lived (but spat it out, of course). The amount needed to kill is around 1/2 a cap (or if not this, a significant portion of a cap). Not possible to absorb this through the skin).

| | | Re: help - deathcap poisoning? I was going to say your sick-feelings were psychosomatic but I couldn't spell it!
Hopefully reading the linked thread will have put your mind at rest by now. To be fair, you don't even know for sure what this fungus was - might be interesting to see the pic, even if it's not very clear, as some of the experts here might recognise it. (I have great faith in their ID skills, even from bad photos, the like of which I sometimes submit for help!)
Edit: An afterthought. Doesn't such poisoning take days rather than hours to have an effect anyway? |
