Staghorns or Not?
Another begging post .... I had thought Staghorns but doubt myself, knowing there is more to this lark than meets the eye.

Both examples were taken in Allean Forest near Loch Tummel in Perthshire. The one growing in the ground was taken in October 2007 and the other, taken in October 2008, was growing on a tree stump.

I think you'll find that the left hand one is also on (buried)wood; I think they are both Calocera viscosa - a conifer species

one thing I have learnt is that C. viscosa is branched whereas C. cornea is not
