These are two different examples but I wonder if they are the same species?
I know I don't give you experts a lot to go on, do I? Both taken in Cawthorn Wood near Cropton, Pickering in North Yorks - in October 2007.  |

Yes the spots are just the remnants of the "universal veil" a protective cover for the developing fruitbody. As the cap expands the veil breaks up and leaves the tell tale patches. Because they are separate from the cap they can be washed off by the rain as in your first example.
