I would say you have 3 and 5 right - those are the easy ones. Sure someone will ID the others soon.

| | Re: Unsure of IDs Cheers guys,
I was reasonably sure about most of these (apart from no. 8-the lack of focus gives me a headache!).
I know I've started with some easy ones here, but I reckon it's best to play it safe with my first post.....
will be back shortly to test you all a bit further...
Thanks , Nick. |

There's no features there that say it isn't Clitocybe nebularis apart from the colour and by the looks of the conditions in the other photographs, it was a pretty dark day which can throw colours off. I don't think this one will get identified, but it is possible that it's Clitocybe nebularis, but I think it's best to leave it as a possibility. If it's not C. nebularis, the other Clitocybe of this size are C. gibba and C. geotropa
As far as I can see, you're right in the majority of your suggestions. I'm unsure about two, but I've not seen the species you mention in either the field or literature, so you may well be correct- spot on with the genus though I reckon.
That's really good for your first season

As far as I know the current thinking on rhacodes var hortensis is that it is identified by the cap and the squamules both being the same dark colour (and the spores being slightly smaller). From you photo it looks to have dark squamules on a lighter background - rhacodes var rhacodes.

| | | Re: Unsure of IDs Thanks gents, lots of good pointers there,
Nick just looked up C. geotropa, looks spot on. There were lost of C.Nebularis around that day, and these two just grabbed my eye by being a little different; lighter in colour and a bit 'drier' in texture.
Mal Rogers says var. hortensis has smaller spores and the photo shows dark scales on a light background- Is this info out of date? things seem to move pretty quickly in the world of mycology! With hindsight perhaps I was getting a bit carried away with this one. should have left it as ' Lepiota sp'.
Thanks KT, but I think Nick's got it right on here
Right, going to get my old microscope out........

FAN says that the picture in phillips of rachodes var rachodes is actually Macrolepiota olivieri and the picture of var hortensis is var rachodes.
So at this point dark cap and squamules - olivieri pale cap dark squamules - rachodes. BUT
The checklist has var hortensis and var bohemica as Chlorophilum(Macrolepiota) brunneum as a darker capped species but still has olivieri as yet another dark capped species
Mal
Ps Chris how would you like my find of a smaller spored dark cap dark squamuled Chlorophylum catalogued |
