| | | Re: hello No2: looks like Lepista nuda (but don't eat without expert ID).
No 3: a Lycoperdon, maybe L.perlatum.
No 4: a Clitocybe, maybe C.neularis (there are a lot about at the moment).
No5: could be the remains of a Coprinus/Psathyrella.sp
Cheers J.P.

| | | Re: hello I found the Wood Blewit, Lepista nuda on Hampstead Heath recently and since I'd already picked a specimen, I brought it home (in an effort to colonize the garden - but I digress). This gave me the opportunity to study it more closely).
The smell is a reliable feature of the wood blewit.
The books describe it as non-mushroomy and perfumed. To my nose it was so citrus-like I needed a second opinion. When I read that it has been described as like frozen orange juice I was gob-smacked - that was EXACTLY how I would describe it (it was a product we had in the freezer as a child).
So why not have a good sniff - all part of the fun.
PS - even if positively identified, it should never be eaten without cooking it - just for interest, I know you have no intention

| | | Re: hello Ty all , i do find this a fascinating subject and it seems people are very passionate about fungi which is also good I have ordered a digital camera so i can take better pics and indeed dont have to pick the lil fellas as it seems a bit of a shame , my poor quality webcam pics are as far as a foody friend could tell from my rain sodden selection i picked whilst walking the dog...
1. possibly the Verdigris Agaric although he had no clue and we were both discussing the amazing amount of slime off of this little chap although must be a great slug repellent.
2. these dark pink guys are everywhere today and are very jelly-like still no clue
3. a poor quality pic of a puffball
4. is an upside down and funny angled chanterelle
5. possibly the remains of an inkcap
Once i started to find them i couldn't stop collecting them (like a big kid ) im situated on the kent border and its been very wet the past 24 hours , i imagine a bad time to look for fungi but i couldnt help myself.. |

| | | Re: hello Hi Judge,
I'm absolutely no expert, but I'm willing to bet number 4 isn't a chanterelle.
I also think number 2 is Lepista Nuda (wood blewit)
As Hedge witch says, don't be afraid to break a bit off and give it a smell. Lepista Nuda definately smells of citrus, although it always reminds me of lemon barley.
Happy sniffing, Nick. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
